The Street Medic

Joe Amaral’s deep, visceral, and often heartbreaking The Street Medic was the winner of the 2018 Palooka Press Chapbook Contest. Joe was born and raised in the East Bay Area. He now works 48-hour shifts as a paramedic on the California central coast, spending days off spelunking outdoors with his young family, camping, hiking, world traveling, and hosting foreign-exchange students. His writing has appeared in awesome places like 3Elements ReviewAnti-Heroin ChicNew Verse NewsPanoplyPoets Reading the NewsPostcard Poems and ProseRise Up ReviewTuck Magazine, and Writers of the Portuguese Diaspora. Joe won the 2014 Ingrid Reti Literary Award for his poem “The Farm I’m From.”
